Land Acknowledgement

Piscataway District map for land acknowledgement

"We want to respectfully acknowledge that the Ruscombe land on which we live, work, and create is the ancestral home of the Paskestikweya (Piscataway is the English translation) peoples.

We honor the wisdom and values of the Paskestikweya peoples, whose long stewardship of this land offers a model of mutual respect, reciprocity, and reverence for the land, water, and all relations. Their teachings guide us in building compassionate communities. We also recognize our shared responsibility to protect and care for Mother Earth, from which all life springs.

We acknowledge the painful history of enslavement and exploitation, recognizing that many have labored on this land, often in suffering, to provide the comforts we enjoy today. We understand that many of the systems in place still perpetuate injustice, with the well-being of some relying on the suffering of others.

In honoring the ancestors, we commit to working towards reconciliation, social justice, and healing, using our resources and talents to address past and present injustices in partnership with Indigenous peoples and marginalized communities.”
