🌞 8 Summer Tips to Support Your Recovery

Summer brings light, energy, and a packed social calendar—but for those in recovery, it can also bring challenges.

Whether you're navigating parties, travel, or just the shift in pace, these 8 tips can help you stay grounded and supported.

Be Selective About Invitations

It’s okay to say no. Choose events and environments that feel safe, respectful, and aligned with your recovery.

  1. Make a Plan
Recovery thrives in structure. Anticipate challenges, plan your support, and decide in advance what works for you.

  2. Bring a Supportive Friend
Go with someone you trust—a friend, family member, or sponsor. It’s okay to lean on others.

  3. Prioritize Rest
Longer days and packed weekends can wear you down. Rest is not optional—it's essential to recovery. Make space for deep sleep, stillness, and downtime.

  4. Ground Yourself Before the Event
Take a few minutes to breathe, check in with how you’re feeling, go to a meeting, meet with your therapist, and set your intention. A clear head helps you stay aligned.

  5. Eat First & Your Glass Is Your Business
Showing up nourished and prepared helps you. You’re allowed to take care of yourself without explanation. Bring your own drink and move on—no need to justify.

  6. Arrive Late, Leave Early
Just showing up is enough—you don’t need to stay the whole time. Set boundaries that work for you.

  7. If it Feels Risky, if you feel in Danger of Relapse, Leave.

No cookout, holiday, or celebration is worth the risk of relapse; Your mental health, recovery, and well being come first, always.

Closing Reminder:

You don’t need to do summer like everyone else. You get to protect your peace, move at your pace, and choose what supports your healing. 🌱
